Quartzsite, AZ
I've driven through Quartzsite, AZ a bunch of times. It's on the way to LA on Hwy 10. Never thought much of it. It seems like a small town bump in the road. Today I needed to stop and kill a little time so as to avoid rush hour traffic in Phoenix. As it turns out Quartzsite has a ton of stuff going on. It's kind of like a big fairgrounds and for the winter months it turns into snowbird heaven. They have a huge, RV, Vacation and Sports Show; a Hobby, craft and gem show; a classic car show; and a giant swap meet going on all winter long. This place is packed with RV's full of snowbirds for the winter who are vendors and visitors to this massive show of shows. When you are zipping by on the Interstate you don't really notice it but when you stop and check it out, it's pretty amazing. They are just ramping up for the busy winter. The snowbird season is almost upon us. I'm already starting to see many license plates from the Midwest. Funny I'm so used to looking for Minnesota License plates that when I was in Minnesota it was almost like, "hey, there's a Minnesota plate". If I see a MN plate and it's convenient to do so, I always go up to them and talk to them. I'll even talk to those with a North Dakota plate. I don't go beyond that, I have my standards. Cheese heads? Forget it. Cubs fans? Forget it. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate the Cubs. It's just their fans often forget what makes the Cubs so loveable. The Cubs are continuous losers and that's what makes them so great. If they were to win a World Series, they just wouldn't be the Cubs. They would just be another team. It's kind of like if the Yankees don't win a World Series every few years, they just wouldn't be the Yankees.
