I just got back from the candlelight vigil at the Arizona State Capitol. It was a sad day today. A well respected moderate Democrat by the name of Gabby Giffords was shot today along with a bunch of other people. The numbers keep changing but it looks like six dead, 11 wounded. Gabby was shot in the head but it looks like she will survive. My prayers go out the the families of the people shot today.
The prayer vigil was a peaceful moment broken by one protester screaming at the top of his lungs hateful political propaganda. At that moment, I wished him dead. But that is percisesly the point. We can hate what others have to say, but we have to let them say it and not think we can take the law into our own hands by giving into violence. That's the problem with this country. Everybody is running around being so "offended" by anything and everything people have to say we have very little tolerance for people who disagree with us. This country is so divided that I fear that some day we will be forced to take sides in some kind of a civil war. I pray and hope that day never happens and that we can restore civility in debate. The steps we all need to take is forgive one another. Then we need to quit being "offended by everything". Then we need to respect people as individuals not as part of any group because the group part is where we are going wrong.
