Time for everyone's favorite...TENNIS TALK WITH ARIZONA DAN

Well, went up against one of those old guys who undercut the ball and keep everything in play. Boy do I hate playing these guys. The sad part is I fall right into the trap of playing their game instead of mine. I try to beat them at their game and that just ain't my style. Tonight I lost in a tie-breaker in the first set and I got too tired in the second set to put up much of a fight. This guy was a sub and they guy I'm supposed to play next week can't make it so guess what...I'm playing this same guy again next week. Well, things are going to have to change. I don't care if I lose 6-0, 6-0, I'm not going to play his game. I'm going to attack the ball and try to hit winners all the time. Can I do it? It's a high risk style of play but I'm going to give it my best effort. I'm not going to lose playing whimp tennis. For the record my style of play is a combination of things, a consistent first serve, a strong forehand with sharp angles and a three pronged backhand. What I mean by that is I mix up my backhand with a combination of two handed top spin, under spin and lobs. Actually, I'm become quite proficient at the backhand lob. Just for the fun of it, maybe I should going into a game and hit nothing but lobs with my backhand. I hit a lot tonight and it seemed to keep him on his toes but it's not really attacking the ball. I'll have to do more of the two handed topspin backhand. So I have my game plan for next week.

By the way playing these guys with the under spin is just killing my Achilles. Last week it was pretty sore but I recovered. Anytime I have to go forward to the net, it just kills me. Now I am stretching before I play so that helps but perhaps all this forward movement will actually help it become more flexible. Achillies tendinitis is something I never what to go through again.
