Two comments from an Attorney General debate pretty much sums up the state of race relations in Arizona

This question was asked by a valley attorney by the name of Francisco Gutierrez.
"Why do you hate Mexicans? It's a serious question, because we feel like we're under attack here in Arizona. Being Latino, I've lived here all my life and we've never been attacked like we have before. And you may laugh at that, but that's how I feel."
This response came from Attorney General Candidate Tom Horne.
"Laughing is the most charitable thing I can do for question like that sir. It is extremely insulting to tell somebody that he's against a race of peple because of his position on a particular bill. And I think it reflects very badly on you that you would have said that to me. You can disagree with me and I respect that disagreement. But I certainly don't respect you if you accuse me of being against a race of people, because this is a terrible slander."
