Image via WikipediaBig day around here. Not only do we have the JD vs. McCain primary but over in Congressional District 3 we have 10 candidates running. It will be very interesting with the vote split 10 ways. They do things different out here. In Minnesota the party would hold an endorsing convention to determine who gets the nod from the party, BEFORE the primary election. It makes for cheaper campaigns and less of a free for all. It also gives the power to the delegates to select a candidate. Now any candidate can go straight to the primary without the blessing of the party but they do so at a great disadvantage. The endorsed candidate gets access to the party machine where they provide them with a mailing list of donors and help them to get elected. Now that I've experienced both ways, I think I do like the decision to be in the hands of the voters rather than the party bosses. The leadership of the party always tries to remain neutral but somehow it always seems to come across rigged for their favorite candidate. I don't think that is always true but sometimes it seems very strange. They do have it set up so that Independents can vote in either primary but Democrats can't cross over and neither can Republicans. Governor Jan Brewer remains very popular. So much so that her two major competitors in the primary dropped out of the race. Say what you will about 1070 but I'm glad it has drawn attention to our border battle. If for no other reason, we should secure our borders just to keep the drug traffic out. They say 60 percent of all the drugs smuggled into this country come through Arizona. In fact there are areas near the border that they warn people to stay out of because of all the drug smugglers. Who's country is this anyway? Let's get some troops down here and take care of business. If we have to declare war on the drug cartels, so be it.
