My trip to the 99 cents store...

Scottsdale, Arizona is one of the finest cities in America in my book. Scottsdale does everything "big time" and the dollar store is no exception. Actually it was a 99 cents store and it was the nicest and largest store of it's kind I've ever seen. The variety was amazing and I couldn't believe the amount of food they sold, bigger than many neighborhood grocery stores I've been in. Pretty amazing place I bought a bunch of stuff. The funny thing is, one of the customers (and he wasn't joking) wanted to know how much something was!!! Too bad we didn't know about this place when we were painting and paying $3 for painters tape. I bought some generic hats that I'm going to have "Show Biz Photo" printed on.

Also, we now have a wedding on our photography schedule. One of my clients from Coronado High School needed someone quickly to replace their photographer who left the state. I'd like to do more weddings but they only have one large wedding show here and I'd be one of 50 photographers. Now this bride was one of the folks who went to the large wedding show and she said it was a $2500 package that kept getting lower and lower with each email she received from them.

The average price of a wedding these days is $18,000. Wedding photography is usually in the $3000 to $6000 range for those who want all the bells and whistles. A lot of times kids go in with the attitude, "you only get married once so might as well do it up big, especially since it's not our money we're spending." So of course Mom and Dad who have given them everything they have ever wanted will say "sure honey spend away." So they do and end up with 1500 proofs, story books, specialized products, $500 leather albums, you name it. Now, Lynn and I have never charged that much because we love dealing with the clients we get who just want a fun, non-stressful day with some good basic pictures.
